Using Your Foreign Licence as a Tourist
Visitors to Singapore can drive legally for up to 12 months using the right documents
Requirements to Drive as a Tourist
Directly Recognised Countries (No IDP Needed if Licence is in English)
If your licence is not in English, you must carry an official certified translation or IDP alongside it. Verify requirements with Singapore's TP website before travel.
Important: Class Equivalence
You may only drive the same class of vehicle that your foreign licence permits. For example, a foreign licence for cars allows you to drive cars in Singapore, but not motorcycles or heavy vehicles. Ensure your foreign licence class matches the vehicle you intend to drive.
Licence Conversion for Foreign Drivers
Hold a foreign licence from a recognised country? You may be eligible to convert it to a Singapore licence – though it's not a straight exchange. Requirements vary by country.
Countries Eligible for Licence Conversion
Subject to change – always verify with the Singapore Traffic Police (TP) or LTA before applying.

International Driving Permit (IDP)
What it is, when you need it, and how to get one
What is an IDP?
An International Driving Permit is a multilingual translation of your home country's driving licence. It does NOT replace your licence – you must carry both together at all times when driving.
Where to Get Your IDP
The IDP is issued by the Automobile Association (AA) or equivalent national motoring authority in your home country, before you travel. You cannot obtain an IDP in Singapore.
IDP Validity
The IDP is generally valid for 1 year from the date of issue. The Geneva Convention IDP (1949 & 1968) is the most widely recognised internationally, including in Singapore.
